Eagle Project Ideas

Preliminary Comments - This write-up is complementary to the extensive guide entitled: "The Eagle Notebook - A Conversational Guide for Scouts and Parents," which you should read (and re-read) before beginning your Eagle Project. Note that the provided list derived from various Eagle Projects that have been completed by other Scouts around the country, but is by no means a limit to what you can do! Use your imagination - the possibilities are almost limitless! Remember, however, that any project proposal must go through the complete approval process before you begin - do not start any project without approvals! Again, this and many other details are spelled out in the above-mentioned Eagle Notebook Guide.

1) Organize and run:

  • a Bicycle Registration Drive and Safety Instruction Course.
  • a Blood Drive.
  • an Organ-Donor or Bone Marrow Donor Registration Drive.
  • a Voter Registration Drive.
  • a Food or Clothing (or both) collection drive for a local homeless shelter.
  • a Book Collection Drive for a school or library.
  • a Flag Retirement Drive (and retirement ceremony.)
  • a Daypack collection drive for disadvantaged youth at local schools.
  • a landscaping project at a local Church, School, Community Center, Nature Center or Park.
  • an "Adopt a Road" or "Adopt a Trail" Program.
  • a Toy Collection Drive (for Christmas, with the Marines or local TV/Radio Station.)
  • a House Number curb painting drive for elderly or handicapped residents.
  • A Habitat for Humanity (or similar type organization) house building/improvement project.

2) Repaint all the lines on a Church or School Parking Lot; paint fire zones and Handicapped Parking and access areas. Or paint all the guardrails, steps and railings outlining the parking lot(s) and buildings.

3) Clean up a Community Park - collect trash, clear underbrush, paint sheds or other buildings, eradicate graffiti, etc.

4) Build and Install:

  • Anti-theft bike posts along the County's many bike trails.
  • Trail Signs in a local park or nature preserve, or at bike trail intersections.
  • Park Benches or wildlife observation posts in a local Park or nature preserve.
  • Bird Houses for endangered Bird Species.
  • Bat Houses for endangered bats.
  • Erosion barriers, water bars and trail lining along a local nature or hiking trail.
  • Storage shelves in a Church, School or Community Center.

5) Clear an old, overgrown and neglected cemetery.

6) Clear and paint a community's fire hydrants.

7) Paint and complete other maintenance work on a Church or School Day-Care Center.

8) Adopt a Hospice or Shelter for a winter - organize groups to do all leaf-raking and yard work.

9) Adopt and assist (i.e., provide regular volunteers to) a soup kitchen or homeless shelter for a season.
